Adopting a Travel Lifestyle; The Mindset to Travel is the Key to Getting Great Deals! (by Darrell Potts)

Uncategorized Mar 15, 2022
Our youngest daughter will graduate in the summer of 2029! A couple years ago, when discussing resuming our passion for world travel, I started to say “after Channing graduates...” I stopped before finishing the sentence. We realized at that moment; we can’t wait until it’s convenient to start traveling again. There’s too much to see! We can’t wait until money is no object. We can’t wait until the weather is perfect. We can’t wait until there are not reports of terrorism anywhere in the world. We can’t even wait until our kids college expenses are planned for. We’ve made “seeing the world” a priority in our lives. As such, that sometimes means we’re going to make do with the couch and loveseat combo in the living room for another year - and use that money to book flights to Milan. Table the couch and chairs...we’re going to Italy!

Right after that conversation, I got on Expedia, figured out...

Flight Hacks: Getting There for Half the Price

Uncategorized Mar 10, 2022
The biggest mistake people make when deciding if they can afford to travel, is just going to Expedia, looking up a price/date, and getting discouraged. Me too! If the tickets swallow up our whole budget, Teena isn’t going to be too happy sleeping in a tent outside of Paris without a car. There are other ways to get there and back affordably.

Let’s say you’re wanting to go to Rome. It’s your dream destination, and you only have one general date you can get away from work (or find somebody to watch the kids). Chances are, that flight price is not going to be a bargain. Let’s throw in a budget. 2 people, and you can’t go over $3500 total (you could certainly do it cheaper - or you cold spend MUCH more - but that’s a good starting budget). Let’s try this:
Ok. Rome is the destination, and you have to leave around May 9 - 19. I do a quick search on Google Flights. The best price I can find from XNA is $1,614 per person. That would...

The Secret Reason Why Most People Never Find a Great AirFare Deal...

Uncategorized Mar 02, 2022
A few weeks ago (late 2019), we booked round-trip flights from our local airport (XNA Northwest Arkansas) to VIENNA, AUSTRIA FOR $314 EACH (round-trip, including insurance). When friends want to know how we’re always able to do that, I try to tell them. There’s no magic formula, magic website, or magical timing that lets one find cheap airfare. There’s one very simple rule to follow - and it applies to everyone: Be ready to go anywhere for your next adventure!

That’s all we do to get awesome fares. We look at ALL of the fares available regularly, then book when we see an amazing deal to any of our hundreds of desired places to go (that matches our schedule, of course). And that’s the secret reason most people don’t get good deals on flights: They always limit themselves to one or two destinations.

Some of you are disappointed right now. Some of you still don’t believe me, and will PM me asking “where do you REALLY find...

Creating Your Travel Wishlist!

Uncategorized Mar 01, 2022
It’s a big world! There are hundreds of places I’d like to go (that I know of), and I’m sure hundreds more that I’ll learn about in the coming years. If the opportunity presents itself, the price looks affordable (and we can figure out where to stash the kids for a few days) we’re mentally ready to go to any of the places on our “wish list” at any time. Here are my favorite links - for browsing and dreaming:

1) National Geographic Travel is always good. I ranked it number one because it is the best one to assist you in finding your "dream destinations" when starting from scratch. It's a travel idea generator! I like it because it's a real magazine with great editors - so it isn't just a collection of ads for advertisers who control content. Also, they sort of lean towards places that are extremely photogenic - which helps. Here is their main link: http://www.nationalgeographic.com/travel/

TOP TEN LISTS: This is probably my...
