This is your chance to experience one of the most stunning landscapes on Earth without breaking the bank. Whether you want to chase waterfalls, relax in hot springs, hike volcanic landscapes, or catch the Northern Lights, Iceland is a bucket-list destination that’s now more affordable than ever.
Â
Drive Iceland’s famous Golden Circle route, stopping at the geyser-filled Haukadalur Valley, the thundering Gullfoss Waterfall, and Thingvellir National Park, where you can walk between two tectonic plates!
Soak in the Blue Lagoon, Sky Lagoon, or one of Iceland’s many natural hot springs while surrounded by otherworldly lava fields.
Visit Skógafoss & Seljalandsfoss, two of Iceland’s most famous waterfalls, or take a stroll on Reynisfjara’s dramatic black sand beach under towering basalt cliffs.
Iceland is one of the best places in the world for whale watching—April and October are especially great months to spot orcas, humpback whales, and even blue whales. You can also visit Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon, where massive icebergs float past seals in a surreal blue lagoon.
Â
Temps: ~32–45°F (0–7°C)
Daylight: 13–16 hours (rapidly increasing)
Precipitation: Frequent mix of rain, sleet, and occasional snow
Wind: Still quite windy, especially in open areas
April is true shoulder season. You can experience all four seasons in a single day — sunshine, sideways rain, then snow flurries. Landscapes are dramatic: snow still on mountains, waterfalls roaring from melt, fewer tourists than summer.
Good for: Lower prices, moody photography, Northern Lights possible early April.
Temps: ~38–52°F (3–11°C)
Daylight: 18–21+ hours by late May
Precipitation: Mostly rain, less snow
Wind: Still present, but generally calmer than winter
May feels much more like spring. Grass starts greening, roads are more accessible, puffins begin returning, and it’s far more comfortable for hiking.
Good for: Fewer crowds than summer, long golden evenings, easier road travel.
It rarely gets “warm” — bring layers.
Wind makes 45°F feel colder.
Sun can feel surprisingly strong when it’s out.
Waterproof jacket = non-negotiable.

Adventure Fares recommends starting your fare search with easy-to-use search engines (like Google Flights) to locate the flight you’re wanting, dates and details. Then, after finding the flight details, we recommend booking the actual flights direct with the airlines. We also sometimes use travel services like Momondo.com, expedia.com, travelocity.com - and others. Booking with airlines directly is typically preferable, especially when problems occur (such as flight changes, delays, booking problems, etc).
